December 11 Dental insurance vs dental plans? - Which is better?Dental insurance vs dental plans? - Which is better? Help! I have to go to the dentist and get some work done on my teeth. It's going to cost me quite a bit. Can I get some sort of dental insurance or a dental plan to help me pay? So does anyone know anything about dental plans? Are they better than dental insurance? They seem cheaper. But it all seems too good to be true! So does anyone have one or know anything about them? Please let me know. First, just call up your dentist or dental office and explain your general problems to them. Ask them about the procedures you will need and rough estimate about how much it is going to cost you. Ask them about the dental plans and dental insurance that they generally accept. Second, Dental Insurance is always better. But it is cost effective only when you get it through either your employer or through that of your spouse. Individual dental insurance is very expensive and many companies don't offer them as it means you are getting it mainly to get treated and that's a definite drain on their resources with out getting anything in return. A group plan on other hand helps them recoup their costs as a large number of patients will be paying the insurance and only a few will be availaing of the treatment. If you can't dental insurance through your office or employer find out if your local chamber of commerce has any arrangements with any dental insurance company. If they have then you can a group dental insurance plan at a lower cost than if you tried to get it all yourself. Dental Plans are not insurance but are like discount clubs. The company selling these plans gets a few dentists together and asks them to accept patients at a lower cost then they would normally charge. So, $100 dollar service is provided at $80 if you are a member of the dental plan and the dentist is part of this contracted group of dentists. With dental insurance there are waiting periods, co-pays and deductibles. There is annual limit on how much you can spend on your treatment per year. You can't get treatment for pre-existing conditions. So, you can't get treated for dental and tooth problems that already exist under a dental insurance. A discount dental plan has no such restrictions but you have to pay a major part of your expenses. But, if you consider all the restrictions, limitations of dental insurance you might just be better off with a dental plans. However make your own assement and choose the best option for you. December 09 Help Me Find The Best Dental Insurance Cover!!Please Help Me Find The Best Dental Insurance Cover!!
This is a question I frequently come across on various forums and discussion rooms on the Internet and in real world when it comes to dental insurance. People are confused - by the range and variety of dental insurance plans that are available. - by the jargon used by the industry. - about what is right for them. Let's look at how to go about finding the best dental insurance. First understand your needs. Do you need comprehensive dental cover or just the basics like cleanings and routine check-ups? Do you need national-wide cover or is just your local cover is enough? This may be relevant for frequent travellers. Do you have children and do they need braces, correction of under-bite or over-bite and and any other dental care? How many of your family need the cover? Remember that for your every additional requirement you will be paying extra as premiums. A comprehensive cover will cost you more than a basic dentalinsurance, a chance to choose your own dentist will cost more than if you have to go by dentists on the panel of the dental insurance company and so on. So, like anything in life you need to find a balance between your wants, needs and the money you can afford to pay for your dental insurance. There is no sense in paying more for coverage that you might never need. Nor is there any sense in not having the coverage you really need. So, the right match is important. Once, you have a rough idea about what you would like in your dental cover, next step is look at the dental insurance companies that offer their services in your area, find the plans that offer similar terms to what you are looking for, compare the costs and the premiums you will need to pay. Some dental plans may offer lower premiums but it will mean you pay more when you undergo a treatment. For instance there may be more deductibles and co-pays. The annual limits may be lower. The percentage of treatment costs you pay may be more than for a higher premium product. It is good idea to talk to dental insurance agent or a customer service rep and ask them to explain terms that you don't understand. The insurance industry like any financial product industry like to hide behind a range of legal terms. Don't be intimidated by them. Talk to agents and ask them to explain each term clearly and in simple english with examples if need be. It is the job of the insurance company to match your needs with the appropriate dental insurance plans in their stable of products. If at any time you feel that what you have got is not right for your needs just go ahead and ask for the appropriate change. Perhaps, all you want or need is a simple dental discount plan that offers a discount on various treatments. You are just not interested in the dental insurance or all the jargon or contact with the insurance staff. It is simple to buy dental plans online with out any hassles. Just go ahead and choose a company that has a good track record and has been around for long and whom you can trust. Even if there were such plans you will pay hefty premiums for such large percentage of coverage. Apart from that you will be faced with limitations - on annual spending and type of treatment. Then there are the waiting periods, deductibles, co-pays. Only group dental insurance issued through employers cover 50 % or so of your dental treatment costs. If you have individual dental insurance then you won't be eligible for even this. The coverage will be much less. Put the money you would pay as premiums in a bank account and use it only for dental emergencies. This is a more cost effective method if you are finacially disciplined person. Even if you put in just 50 dollars a month you will have $600 at the end of the year to which you can keep adding to every month. Use this money only for dental treatment and for no other purpose. If you pay premiums of even $100 dollars a month, that is $1200 dollars in premiums alone only a small percentage of which will go towards your treatment the rest going towards the bottomline and salaries of employees of dental insurance companies. Make an estimate of what dental treatments you might require over the years. You could consult with your dentist about this and save a reasonable amount of money in your dental account. To make the most of what you have, get a membership in a dental discount club or dental plans that is local to your area like this dental discount plan at http://www.a1-dental-insurance.com. These plans can cost between 100-200 dollars but will give you nice discounts on dental treaments costs and you can also get free cleanings and checkups as part of the membership benefits which would be what you would any way spend when you visit your dentist for twice a year check-ups.
